As someone who struggles with depression and a need to constantly look forward to things, it is very easy to get lost in a world of discontentment. As a creative, it can be even more challenging to keep the spark of creativity alive. I have gone back to the basics and am beginning to discover activities that boost my mood, offer inspiration and that cost next to nothing.
1.) GO OUTSIDE
I don’t care what you do outside, just get out there. There is something about fresh air, the sky above you and not to mention the science of the SUN. Yes, I believe in sunscreen, however there is room for sun to skin contact. A little vitamin D boosts your mood and warms the heart.

2.) DANCE IT OUT
I am no professional. Quite the opposite. You could be the worst dancer on the face of the earth, but moving your body to the beat of your favorite song unlocks something really special. Even if just for a moment, it has proven (in my own life) to release stress and actually cause a smile. October is going to be buzzing with new music which presents the perfect opportunity to bust a move. If you are in need of a fresh playlist, I share seasonal ones right here on “Steep Sweet”, curated by: Yours Truly.
3.) COOK YOURSELF A MEAL
I am not talking about frozen pizza or ramen in a cup. I’m talking about pulling out a protein, seasoning it, chopping up some veggies and putting together a colorful plate to nourish yourself. This is a newer enjoyment I have personally discovered. Preparing a meal is a reminder to appreciate the food we are putting into our bodies and to actually take time to eat it. Bright colorful veggies can be somewhat inspiring. I can’t explain it, they just are. I chopped up some cilantro and red bell pepper yesterday and seeing them just sitting on my cutting board gave me a mini endorphin rush. Call me desperate for endorphins, but it’s the little things that we appreciate over here.

I would LOVE to know which one you are going to try first! Leave a comment below. Let’s start chatting. Building community on positivity and vulnerability could be cool…right?
Sincerely,
Brooklynn
